Originally built in 1904, this 300 m² house underwent a complete renovation with thoughtful extensions to the ground and first floors. We envisioned a modern yet timeless aesthetic, blending contemporary elements with the charm of its original features.
Attention to detail is evident throughout the project. All windows and doors were replaced, and the original style was carefully preserved. The front facade, which had to be strictly maintained, retains its exact separation and original stained glass, honoring the home’s historical integrity. For the kitchen, master bathroom, and fireplace, we sourced handpicked marble slabs directly from Italy, ensuring a luxurious and cohesive look.
A careful balance between preservation and innovation was maintained: the original woodcrafted handrail on the staircase was lovingly restored, while the wall and doors beneath the original hallway arch were replaced with a sleek steel-and-glass partition, inviting natural light to flow freely.
We echoed the original hallway arch by creating a second arched pathway between the kitchen and dining room. To support such a large arched opening, a steel beam was installed at the top and hidden within the wall. The kitchen extension, framed with steel and glass windows and a steel-and-glass door, opens to the garden, creating a sense of connection and a stronger bond with the outdoor space. For the garden design, I invited the talented landscape architect Jana Schmidtchen to come aboard. She planned a marvelous garden complete with a serene fish pond, adding a tranquil and picturesque touch to the outdoor area.
The first floor is dedicated to the parents’ space, offering a luxurious bedroom, a walk-in closet, a sophisticated shower room, and two home offices. One of the offices also doubles as a home gym, combining functionality and elegance to suit their lifestyle. The master shower room showcases exceptional craftsmanship. One wall in the shower is clad with a large marble slab, creating a stunning focal point, complemented by a bespoke double sink unit featuring the same marble paired with a textured wooden cabinet. A marble threshold, crafted from leftover pieces of the slab used for the walls and sink cabinet, adds an elegant and sustainable touch, tying the elements together for a harmonious design. The toilet is housed in an adjacent WC room, finished with the same materials to ensure continuity and a unified aesthetic.
The second floor is the teenagers’ domain—a vibrant, dynamic space tailored to their needs. Each teen has a bedroom, complete with a private balcony offering a personal retreat. They share a pampering shower room designed to be both functional and stylish, creating a space that feels modern and comfortable for their growing independence.
The house also features a basement, offering additional storage, a wine cellar, and a sauna. This functional and relaxing space ensures practicality while adding a touch of luxury to the home.
